“Art League Houston is now registering for the Summer 2009 semester of art classes and workshops. Be sure to register before 5 pm on June 13th and save $25 on each eight or ten week class. These include a non-instructive figure drawing lab every Thursday and Saturday from 1-4 pm with a live model is from which to draw, sketch or paint and The Plein Air Painting Group , an informal gathering of ALH members who meet on location the third Saturday of each month to draw or paint outdoors. Workshop on How to Apply for the Texas Filmmakers Production Fund

The Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP) is hosting an informational workshop on how to apply for the Texas Filmmakers Production Fund. The workshop will take you through the application process step-by-step. RSVP by emailing SWAMP or call 713-522-8592 xt. 2

The workshop will be held at Auroroa Picture Show (located at 1524 Sul Ross, Houston, TX) on April 26, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Deadline for the 2009 cycle is June 1st and if you are a filmmaker who has resided in Texas for at least one year, you are eligible to apply for up to fifteen thousand dollars in funding for your project.

Since 1996, the Austin Film Societys TFPF has supported Texas filmmakers by giving out nine hundred thirty thousand dollars in cash, goods and services to 265 film and video projects.

Screenwriting Workshop

Tom Vaughan will be teaching a 10-week workshop, Story and Plot III: The First Draft, starting June 8, 2009. Anyone interested is encouraged to also sign up for the prerequisite Story and Plot I: Structure (“a basic introduction to storytelling and how it applies to screenwriting”) which will take place on May 23, 2009.

ON Feb 10 Art Advocacy Day (Austin)

Texans for the Arts is kicking off its 2009 lobbying season with Arts Advocacy Day on Tuesday, February 10th. $45 gets you an arts advocacy workshop with Kellner consulting and HillCo, and lunch at the Radisson Hotel, Austin with keynote “dynamic arts advocate” Bill Lively, CEO of the both the Dallas Center for the Performing Art and the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee. According to the press release, the goal is to increase public arts spending to $1 per capita, and to “promote the arts as one of our state’s critically important economic engines”, not to mention “making Texas a world class cultural destination.”
