This year’s shows include: Twelfth Night and Pericles

Auditions will be held: Saturday, March 14, 10am – 5pm

Location: University of Houston School of Theatre

Auditions are by appointment only.

Callbacks will take place: Monday, March 16, 12 – 6pm

AUD Feb 21 UH/Alley Theatre MFA

Auditions for the acting ensemble that will begin Fall 2009 for the UH/Alley Theatre MFA will be held in Houston on Feb 21. The group audition will run from 10-1130 am; 20 minute individual appointments will be held afterward. People interested in auditioning should email Jack Young, Head of UH Graduate Acting & Directing at jyoung2@uh.edu, and include a pdf or jpg of headshot and resume. Please prepare a pair of contrasting monologues (classic/contemp., serious/comic, etc.) as well as verse & chorus of a song to be presented a capella, and as many other selections to show your full range.

DUE May 1 Script Contest at A. D. Players

2008-2009 A. D. Players Script Competition

Submitted plays will be evaluated according to their suitability for our company and must meet the following criteria:

* an unpublished play for general audiences (no musicals or screenplays)

* Children’s Theater — at least 45 minutes long. Mainstage Theater — at least 70 minutes long

* Only one (1) script per author for Children’s and/or Mainstage Theater. * Plays previously submitted to A. D. Players are not eligible for this competition.

* a complete script (no rough drafts) formatted in standard professional playscript format

(see Professional Playscript Format Guidelines & Sample, 2nd ed. – Samuel French, Inc.)

* inclusion of a cover sheet with Title, author and date written

* a synopsis (one page or less) with the following: title, story summary, and cast breakdown

* a cast consisting of 10 actors or fewer

Submissions must include name, address, phone and email address.

“HIP 2B FIT!” SEEKS TALENT FOR UPCOMING GIGS

SEEKING:

Experienced performers (all ethnicities, immediate African American Male replacement, look under 30 please) with high energy and healthy appearance. You should have comic acting ability. The show has big, broad characters. Be able to sing and perform simple jazz/hip hop-style movement.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

This 45 minute program tours schools and children’s events.

You must have daytime availability for performances and reliable transportation. THIS A PAYING GIG $70 per show, Rehearsals also paid.

DUE March 1 & 15 Original Scripts Needed at Theatre Southwest

Dee Cliburn is accepting scripts for Theatre Southwest’s 4th annual Reader’s Theatre. Scripts should be 5 to 15 minutes in length. The best scripts will be chosen and given staged readings on March 15. You may submit up to 3 plays. At the end of the readings, the audience will vote for their favorite and the winner will receive a $100 “thank you.” There is no entry fee.

The deadline for script submissions to the Readers Festival is March 1. Scripts should be mailed to:

Mimi Holloway is accepting scripts for Theatre Southwest’s 12th annual Festival of Originals. Comedies, drama and avant-garde are all welcome. The festival runs July 24-August 8. Scripts should be as close to 20 minutes as possible. All five winners will receive a $100 “thank you.” The entry fee is $5 (per script). All scripts must be unpublished.

The deadline for script submissions to the Festival of Originals is March 15. Scripts should be mailed to

Years of work made Sandel one of Houston’s top actors

Don’t give Joel Sandel that old canard about how it’s impossible to piece together an acting career in Houston unless you get hired as a company member at the Alley Theatre.

Sandel’s been doing just that for 20 years, chiefly as a mainstay at Main Street Theater, but with regular work at the Houston Shakespeare Festival and other companies — and only two gigs at the Alley, thank you very much.
